Advance Organizers


Research and Theory:

  • Provide scaffolding for learner - bridge gaps between learner already knows and what needs to be known.
  • Focus on what is important as opposed to what is unusual.
  • Utilize "higher level" thinking for deeper learning.
  • Most useful tools for information that is not well organized.


Types of Advance Organizers:

  • Expository - straightforward descriptions of new content.
  • Narrative - stories told in first or third person.
  • Skimming - brief perusal of what will be read.
  • Graphic - visual representations to bridge new info
